High Quality Back Links - Are You Making This Mistake?

Posted in Internet Marketing, search engine optimization on September 27th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

Hey there!

It’s been awhile since my last blog post, so here we are!

I want to discuss a very common SEO mistake that people tend to make (I made this too!).

OK, here we goo…

The fool proof way to improve your search engine rankings is to get high quality back links to your website. I’m sure you know this already (or at least, I hope so!).

-A high quality back link is basically a link to your website from another website that is also about the same topic of your website.

However, it’s very easy to misinterpret whether or not the content on each website is the same or related. I know that probably doesn’t make sense, so let me put it another way and also give you some examples.

Search engines are dumb.

What you or I can easily categorize as being related in topic, the search engines cannot. They base everything off keywords, and if the keyword is not on the exact page that links to your website (for the keyword you are trying to rank for), it does you no good. Let’s work off an example to make this clearer.

Let’s say I give you two words: carpentry and hammer and asked you if they are related, you would say yes because a carpenter uses a hammer on a daily basis.

Here’s an even better example.

Words: webmaster & web hosting

If you know anything about websites, you would say the two terms are related because all webmasters need web hosting in order to show their websites to the world…

However, since search engines can’t think (at least not yet) or have learning experiences, they are unable to make this connection.

In other words, if you get a link on a page about being a webmaster to your web hosting site, in the eyes of the search engines it does not count as a high quality link UNLESS the words web hosting are in content somewhere else on the page about being a webmaster.

(Yes, I speak from experience here I actually made that mistake with my web hosting company years ago and ended up burning thousands on paid links, but that’s another story)

Now, I’m not saying it isn’t worth trying to get a link from a webmaster website if you have a web hosting website - in fact, I’ve had a lot of success turning that traffic into buyers…

However, from an SEO standpoint, it does not count as a high quality link. So strictly speaking SEO here, if I wanted a high quality link to my web hosting sites, I need to comment somewhere on a website or page that is specifically about web hosting.

Make sense?

Learn it!

5 Ways to Add the Human Element to Your SEO

Posted in search engine optimization on July 21st, 2010 by admin – 7 Comments Tags: , ,

Hi folks!

If you had a chance to look over that report I sent you the other day, you know that it is crucial to start working on the human element of your website, especially as an affiliate. His theory is that Google is starting to use their free services like Chrome and Feedburner to try and gauge whether or not your website is of junk or of value.

While there is no way to really prove that, I believe it is the case.

If you think about on page and off page SEO, that stuff can be easily manipulated - look at all the link spam going on these days. Yes it works if you do it right, but that’s not what Google wants.

Google wants awesome websites to be at the top of their index. Since webmasters have wised up quite a bit since 2000, they MUST have heftier measures in place or else their business is DONE. The only way for them to do this is to measure human data, for example, how long a user is staying on the website for, and if they are browsing multiple pages of it.

And with FB search starting to become more popular(they allow users to basically vote whether the content is worthwhile or not - meaning REALLY hard to manipulate), it’s no doubt that they are going to start putting a lot of focus on human behavior.

I don’t know if you guys are familiar or not with that Mayday update that Google did in May, but A LOT of affiliates lost their site rankings because they weren’t following the human element rule of SEO.

(luckily for you Profitzon owners, your sites are perfectly safe. Every single one of my Profitzon sites/pages still rank just as well as they did before the update).

However, I want to discuss some ways to cater to the human visitor, instead of focusing solely on the SE robot.

Tip #1 - ADD VIDEO

This will help your bounce rate out tremendously. Video has a unique way of capturing the visitors attention(probably because of all those years spent watching TV). Once they start that video, as long as it is relevant, they are hooked! With a video alone, you are guaranteed they stay on your site for at least a minute or two while the video plays. Crucial for padding out your stats, and naturally providing some pretty decent value.

Tip #2 - Proper Formatting

THIS IS CRUCIAL, and I can’t stress this enough. What good is awesome content if it looks so cluttered that no one wants to read it. I’ll admit, sometimes my outsourcers create some less than par articles from time to time. However, even though the articles aren’t that great, the bounce rate doesn’t really reflect that simply because I formatted the post so well that it forces to reader to scroll down the page and read parts of it. Again, improving the amount of time they spend on your website. Use bolding, break up text so the blocks are at max 2-3 sentences, use lists and bullets, use design elements like tables to create nicely displayed information, etc.

Tip #3 - Add images

A very common sense tip, but images do wonders for making your website pages much more appealing. Don’t go overboard with them though. Just one or two images per post is a good number.

Tip #4 - Encourage user comments

This is a really great way to have your users update your website for you. What I am starting to do now is prominately prompt them to leave questions or reviews of the product on each page of my website. In order to keep the call to actions direct, I’ll say something like ‘If you already own this product, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave your review of it here. It will help us out tremendiously!’

Tip #5 - Comment on your own pages

This tip may seem a little bit dirty to some of you, but sometimes you’ll have to comment on your own posts. What I am starting to do now is once a month have someone go through all my posts and comment on them with a 50-75 word comment. Generally I tell them to leave questions instead of creating fake reviews because that is misleading, and if they ask you a question it offers you the opportunity to reply back - making your reviews even more valuable, and also adding more unique content on a regular basis to your website.

That’s it for today. I am most likely going to follow up with another post about this in the future, so keep a look out!

I also have some really exciting news! On Nov 5th, I am launching Profitzon 2.0 to the world. This is going to be HUGE. I already have partners on board, just about sealed the deal with my JV broker, and am going to 2 live IM events before Nov 5th to network for my launch. I know that PZ2 will make a huge splash in the market place.

How does this benefit you?

Well I’m going to give you the opportunity to become an affiliate for me before everyone else. What that will do is give you plenty of time to SEO your Profitzon review posts to the top before the masses join in, as well as build a launch list so that on launch day you can send a couple emails to your in house list and make some really good commissions.

I’ll send a more direct email about this in the future after everything is set in stone :)

Thanks,

Dan Brock
